BMOG Toys was started by Trent Troop. He said he came up with the idea of BMOG Toys when playing with a Generation 1 Top-Heavy figure. He was joined by artist Greg Sepelak and engineer Alex Androski.

He also says it was inspired by Glyos, Micronauts, Starriors and Zoids.

Trent designed his first mold, a bear, in Studio 3D. The hexagons in its design are inspired by honeycombs. Early names for this bear included Bruination and Bear Made of Guns. The name Bruination was abandoned due to it's similarity to a character owned by another company. The name Bear Made of Guns went on to inspire the name of the company.

Fundraising for the BMOG Toys bear and manta mold was done through Kickstarter. The goal of raising $19,000 was surpassed by the end of the fundraising period on December 13th, 2013.

Development of BMOG has slowed since Alex Androski passed away.

===Fiction===
In the BMOG Toys fictional setting the Bio-Mechanical Ordnance Gestalts were brought to life when weapons made by a group of evil interdimensional arms dealers were exposed to the power of the last world seed. Two factions were formed, the heroic Augmentoids and the evil Paraxxoids.

===Products===
BMOG Toys products are designed on a 5mm peg and port system intended to make them compatible with a wide array of other toy lines. Each BMOG creature is made of 1 or more pieces that can be used as weapons and accessories by other toys. The initial toys themselves were sold on a single plastic sprue, to be punched out and assembled by the customer, with stickers to apply. Later products were released on Shapeways.
