Toxitron was first shown at BotCon 2005's "TF Rarities" panel by Rik Alvarez, with people describing it as "amazingly ugly." Later, it was on display at the "Things you've never seen before (and will never get)" booth at the Hasbro tour at BotCon 2007.

In Viron 704.31 Epsilon, [[Megazarak]] arrived from Cybertron after the death of Megatron and declared for leadership of the Predacon/Decepticon forces. Scourge challenged him, and Megazarak seemed to back down, only to poison his rival with Tox-En. Toxitron was the first attempt by Doctor [[Scalpel (Transformers)|Scalpel]] and [[Oil Slick]] to protoform a warrior in an Autobot shell. The failed experiment produced a bizarre duplicate of Optimus Prime with immense strength, corrosive toxic sludge cannons, a hopelessly stunted intellect, and a penchant for driving backwards in vehicle mode. Fortunately for the Decepticons, the data from this mishap lead to the greater success with Projects Stunticon and [[Nemesis Prime]].

Like Optimus Prime he can fire a grappling line from his wrist and he carries a jet assisted axe into battle, although he sometimes uses a plunger instead.

Toxitron first appeared in the ''Transformers: Timelines'' story "[[The Stunti-Con Job]]". After the events of ''[[Transformers Animated]]'' the Stunticons set up a Stunt Convoy show in the city of Kaon and used it as cover to attempt to break [[Megatron]] out of his detention at [[Trypticon]]. Their efforts were thwarted thanks to the efforts of [[Cheetor]], [[Optimus_Prime#Transformers_Animated|Optimus Prime]] and [[Sideswipe_(Transformers)#Transformers:_Timelines_.282011.29|Sideswipe]]. When not on missions, TOXITRON had to be kept in a state of Cognizant Stasis to protect his fellow comrades.

Toxitron was the main character in the 2016 ''Fun Publications'' story ''[[The Toxic Transformer]]''. On ancient [[Cybertron]], [[Spin-Out]] and his troops, which include [[Outback (Transformers)|Outback]] and [[Powerflash]], discover Toxitron, who slaughters all the troops. At a secret Decepticon lab [[Vivasector]] and [[Oil Slick (Transformers)|Oil Slick]] report to [[Shockwave (Generation 1)|Shockwave]] and [[Knockout (Transformers)|Knockout]] on the progress the progress of their experiments with Toxitron, who was designed to be part of a combiner, that went wrong. He emits a highly corrosive substance, but heals from any damage almost instantly. At the site of the construction of the Ark, [[Red Alert (Transformers)|Red Alert]] oversees security as [[Jetfire]] and [[Brawn (Transformers)|Brawn]] deliver a component for the Ark. Toxitron, who registers with an Autobot transponder thanks to the head of Spin-Out kept in his chest, and has the same cybermetric signature as Optimus Prime, crashes the front gate. Unable to kill Toxitron, the monster precedes massacre the Autobots. At the Decepticon lab Vivasector and Oil Slick report on Toxitron's progress, where they mention that the stasis lock implant in Toxitron has corroded, but there is a backup stasis lock implant that is still working, although it takes a breem to charge. They are not worried because Toxitron is taking orders anyways. Knock Out discovers the lab's resupply ship, which arrives every three months has just docked, and warns Vivasector and Oil Slick they should have started charging the backup stasis lock implant. Knock Out immediately recalls the resupply ship for fear Toxitron will attempt to use it as an escape ship. The escape alarm sounds. Toxitron, in waking stasis lock, stares at the hanger doors, and recalls "settling accounts" with those at the lab before being locked in stasis, where he has stood for a long time. [[Counterpunch]], [[Fractyl]] and [[Impactor]] find the lab and discover Toxitron. They decide to release Toxitron and offer to let him join their quest to destroy [[Thunder Mayhem]].
