Career
Balondemu is a lawyer affiliated with Balon Advocates and Bloom Advocates[6]. As chairperson of the Kampala District Land Board[3], he oversees land allocation and management in the capital city. His position has been scrutinized due to allegations of fraudulent land allocations and the misuse of board resolutions.[1]
Criticism
Balondemu has faced numerous criminal charges. These include allegations of defrauding local and international companies and forging official documents. Some key accusations are:
- In 2023, he was accused of defrauding a Korean investor of UGX 2.2 billion in a fake gold transaction.[7]
- He allegedly defrauded a Turkish construction company of UGX 14 billion by promising fake contracts.[8][9]
- Investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) revealed fraudulent activities amounting to over UGX 41 billion involving multiple international companies.[10]
In 2024, Balondemu was charged with forging medical documents to obtain bail, including falsified prescriptions and hospital records.
Bail and Controversies
Balondemu was granted bail in October 2024 under conditions that included surrendering his passport and restrictions on international travel.[11][12] Despite facing multiple warrants and accusations, some charges have been dropped due to insufficient evidence. Public scrutiny and investigations are ongoing.[13]
