Bhikitia (Bengali: ভিকিটিয়া) is a Bangladeshi open encyclopedia[1] that was launched in October 2024.[2] It is not open for editing by anyone.[2]

History
Bhikitia founded on 1 October 2024, started as a Bengali-language encyclopedia.[1] It later expanded to include an English version, growing its global reach. By November 2024, it hosted over 1,100 articles, offering diverse, user-generated content.[2]
Governance
Bhikitia is managed by the Bhikitia Council. The council is responsible for maintaining content quality, implementing policies, and supporting the community of contributors.[3] However, its role is not to control or govern users, but to provide guidance and ensure a safe and enriching information platform for all.[4][5]
Criticism
Since its launch, Bhikitia has faced criticism, particularly from some quarters of the online encyclopedia community. A notable controversy arose in November 2024 when a Bengali Wikipedia administrator labeled Bhikitia a "fake website" and accused its founder of engaging in unethical practices such as "sock puppetry." These claims were strongly denied by the Bhikitia Council, which emphasized its independence and adherence to transparent practices.[6]
