Huma Abia Kanta (born 24 May 2009) is an Indian student researcher and aspiring computer scientist from Guwahati, Assam. She is recognized for her work in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), and for promoting community-based technology education in Northeast India. In 2025, she became one of the youngest Indians to present a research paper at an international AI conference in Azerbaijan.

Early life and education

Huma grew up in Guwahati, Assam, and attended Royal Global School, where she consistently ranked among the top 2% of her cohort and received the Chairman’s Medal for Academic Excellence. She has maintained a record of high academic performance, achieving above 93% each year from Grade IX onward.

Research and publications

Huma focuses on AI applications in sustainability, socio-technological modeling, and computational linguistics.

ML-Based Prediction of Phycocyanin Purity

She presented her study on predicting the purity of phycocyanin using machine learning at an international conference organized by Nakhchivan Technical University in collaboration with five other universities in October 2025. Her research compared six regression models—Ridge, XGBoost, Support Vector, Linear, and Random Forest—and achieved an average absolute error of 0.058, demonstrating the potential of ML models in forecasting pigment purity for sustainable bio-resource industries.

Seq2Seq Reconstruction of Sanskrit Phonology

In another project accepted for RegiCON 2025, Huma used a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) encoder-decoder with attention mechanisms to reconstruct phonetic relationships from historical Sanskrit corpora, contributing to computational linguistics research.

She has co-authored additional studies that are currently awaiting approval for publication.

Entrepreneurship

In 2025, Huma founded DesiCodes, a youth-led programming education initiative. The project developed asPy, an Assamese–Python transpiler that allows Python programs to be written using Assamese keywords, aiming to reduce language barriers for students learning to code in Northeast India.
