COVID-19 Update in Bangladesh (June 2025): As of mid-June 2025, Bangladesh is witnessing a resurgence in COVID-19 cases, driven largely by new Omicron subvariants. The country is taking active measures to control the spread and protect its citizens.
Current Situation

New Variants
The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) has detected two new Omicron subvariants, named XFG and XFC. These variants are reported to be more transmissible but have not led to increased severity in infections.
Health Measures
- The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is expanding COVID-19 testing facilities in major hospitals to meet the rising demand.
- Booster vaccination campaigns are underway, targeting high-risk groups to reduce severe illness and hospitalization.
Travel Advisory
The government advises against non-essential travel to neighboring countries, especially India, due to surging cases there.
