Sultana’s Dream

Sultana’s Dream is a short story written by Begum Rokeya in 1905. It imagines a world called Ladyland where women are in charge and men are kept inside, similar to how women were traditionally secluded.[1]

Plot

In Ladyland, women have made a peaceful and advanced society. They use solar power, have flying cars, and grow food easily. Sultana dreams of this place where women are free and educated.[2]

Historical Context

Begum Rokeya wrote this story to show a world where women have power and freedom. It was first published in The Indian Ladies Magazine.
