Pinaki Bhattacharya (born 15 December 1967) is a Bangladeshi YouTuber, blogger, online activist, and physician known for his vehement criticism of Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League party-led government.
He is currently based in Paris, France, where he is pursuing a PhD and working as a Global Medical Relations Specialist for L'Oréal.
Early life
Pinaki Bhattacharya was born in 1967 in Bogura District, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He is the elder son of Shyamal Bhattacharya, a former teacher and cultural personality. Although he studied medicine, he is currently not involved in this profession.[1]
Career
Pinaki Bhattacharya is best known for his online activism and blogging. He has over 2.49 million subscribers on YouTube and is active on Facebook and Twitter. His content often focuses on the history of Bangladesh, ongoing politics, human rights issues, and issues of neighboring countries.[2]
Political Involvement
Pinaki was once involved in leftist politics as a former member of the Communist Party of Bangladesh. He has written 18 books on the history of Bangladeshi politics and various other subjects. His activism played a crucial role in the 2018 Bangladesh road-safety protests and the India out campaign in Bangladesh.[2]
Personal life
Pinaki Bhattacharya is currently living in political asylum in France. He transitioned from his pharmaceutical business to a specialized role in global medical relations. He manages medical affairs for several prominent skincare brands under L'Oréal.[3]
Controversies
Pinaki Bhattacharya has been a vocal critic of the Awami League government, often highlighting issues such as corruption, human rights violations, and extrajudicial killings. His outspoken nature has led to multiple threats against his life.[4]
