Sylhet International University (SIU) is a private institution located in Sylhet, Bangladesh, founded in 2001 under the Private University Act of 1992. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.[1][2]

History

Establishment

Sylhet International University (SIU) was established in November 2001 under the Private University Act of 1992 in Bangladesh. It was founded by Mr. Kutubuddin Ahmed, who, along with his family and associates, set up the Gulshan Foundation for Education Development (GFED). The university was the first project of GFED, and Mr. Ahmed served as the founder Chairman of the Trustee Board until his retirement in October 2009.

Academic Inception

SIU began its first academic session in October 2001, with Sadruddin Ahmed Chowdhury serving as its first Vice-Chancellor. The university was founded with the vision of providing quality higher education in Bangladesh, particularly in the Sylhet region, to cater to the growing demand for modern education in science, technology, business, and the humanities.

Growth and Expansion

Over the years, SIU has expanded its academic programs, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in multiple disciplines. The university has focused on research, innovation, and international collaborations to enhance the learning experience of its students.

Present Status

Today, SIU continues to be a leading private university in Sylhet, recognized for its contributions to higher education in Bangladesh. The university maintains a commitment to fostering academic excellence, professional skills, and research opportunities for students.
